At the beginning of 2023 we will also begin start construction of 6km from the Military Academy via Slatina Blvd to "Tsarigradsko Shosse".

"The metro line remains the most important strategic project for the city. It alters the environment and provides the most environmentally friendly and convenient transport for the public. With these new three kilometres, 40,000 more people will use this transport on a daily basis. After the second expansion through the Slatina region, the metro will have a 50% share in public transport." These were the words of the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, today when inspecting the construction of the extension of Line 3, at the metro station "Georgi Asparuhov Stadium". The inspection was also attended by the Executive Director of "Metropolitan", Prof. Dr. Eng. Stoyan Bratoev, the Deputy Mayors of Sofia for Construction and Transport, Engineers Angel Georgov and Kristian Krastev, as well as representatives of Siemens management.

The new section is 3 km long and has three metro stations. It will provide 40,000 people every day the change of taking the metro.

"The construction of the subway through the Poduyane region is progressing on schedule," Fandakova said.  “In recent months, the construction of the three new metro stations – Georgi Asparuhov Stadium, Trakia Station, at the intersections of Gen. Vladimir Vazov Str." and Vitinya Str., and Gen. Vladimir Vazov" in the region of the intersection with "S. Dospevski" str.”

Siemens will oversee the management and operation systems of 9 metro trains in total. They have already started designing them.

“We managed to allocate the funds for the expansion of the metro line and we have started the construction entirely using funds allocated by the municipality on March 21, 2022. In this way we have compensated for the delay in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan under the previous government," the Mayor explained.

"I am grateful to the Minister of Finance, Ms. Velkova, who in August restored the funding, and also for her support in co-financing the section through the Slatina region. Thank you for the cooperation we received from the Deputy Prime Ministers Mr. Pekanov and Mr. Hristo Alexiev and Minister Shishkov". The Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova added.
